Frequently asked questions

Do I need a dedicated EV charger, or can I use a power point?

A standard power point will charge your car, but slowly, and it isn't designed to carry a high load for hours at a time. A wall-mounted charger on its own circuit is faster, safer and better suited to everyday charging.

Should I get a single-phase or 3-phase charger?

Most Melbourne homes have a single-phase supply, and a single-phase charger covers most people's daily driving. A 3-phase charger only helps if your home has 3-phase power and your car can charge at the higher rate. We'll check both and recommend what suits you.

Will I need a switchboard upgrade?

Sometimes. Older switchboards with ceramic fuses, no spare space or no safety switch capacity may need upgrading to take a charger safely. We check before we quote, explain why, and include everything in one written quote. More about our switchboard upgrades

Can I charge my car from my solar panels?

Yes. A compatible smart charger can send excess solar power to your car instead of exporting it to the grid. If you're also thinking about a home battery, we can design the charger, solar and battery to work together.

How long does installation take?

It depends on the distance from your switchboard, the cable route and whether any switchboard work is needed. We'll give you a timeframe in your written quote and confirm when the power will be off.
